Permitting Process

Planning for development within the Adirondack Park combines the cooperation of local governments and the Adirondack Park Agency (APA).  Although local government focuses on local development, the APA oversees development that affects the entire Park.

The New York State Legislature created the APA in 1971 for the purpose of developing a long-range master plan for management of State lands and for the preparation of a land use and development plan for private lands within the Adirondack Park.

The APA is a New York State governmental agency with an eleven-member board and a staff consisting of approximately 60 people.  Eight of the eleven board members are appointed by the Governor and the remaining three are state agency designees.

The Adirondack Park Agency Act, along with the Rules and Regulations and the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan were written to protect the public and private resources of the Park.

The permitting process will require the APA to act as lead agency to Adirondack Wind Energy Park and the Project will be required to adhere to all permitting requirements.
