RESOLUTION
SUPPORTING THE
IN THE TOWN OF
The following
resolution was unanimously moved.
WHEREAS, industry and sustainable economic development are
needed in our region. The economy of our region and
WHEREAS, Renewable Wind Energy reduces pollution from electrical generation employing fossil fuels. Wind energy is an industry that is not only clean but also reduces pollution while supporting economic development.
WHEREAS, Barton Mines is an industrial site and the project area has many existing highly visible structures including but not limited to the following: trail network of Gore Mountain ski towers, DEC Radio Tower, Power lines, existing roads, mine waste piles and a power line that serves Gore Mountain and Barton Mines.
WHEREAS, managing wind resources and bringing it to service for the public good and usefulness follows in the tradition of managing and mining the timber and mineral resources of the Adirondack North Country Region.
WHEREAS, this project
has the support of the Town of
WHEREAS, under Article 3-111 and Sections 1&5 of the New York State Energy Law, the Legislature has mandated a policy that seeks to provide a continuous supply of safe, dependable and economic energy. This policy promotes economic growth, protects the environment and creates employment. Wind energy in particular is named as a source to be considered.
WHEREAS, the APA Act calls for a balanced consideration of both the positive and adverse impact of any project and that the potential benefits of this project on the local economy, tourism, air quality and energy production greatly outweigh any aesthetic impacts at this intensely developed site.
LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Schroon supports the Wind Energy Park and other similar energy projects throughout the Adirondacks and strongly urges the Adirondack Park Agency to approve this project in compliance with the laws of the State of New York and the recommendation of the professional staff of said agency and local government officials.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be forwarded to APA Commissioners, Governor George E. Pataki, Congressman John Sweeney, Assembly Majority Leader Sheldon Silver, Assemblywoman Diedre Scozzafava, Sandra L. LaBarron and Stuart Buchanon, Department Environmental Conservation Regions 5&6, the twelve Counties of the Adirondacks, Adirondack Park Agency, Senator Elizabeth Little, Assemblywoman Theresa Sayward, Association of Towns and Villages, Commissioner Denise Sheehan, DEC, Assemblyman Marc Butler, Congressman John Sweeney, Senator Joseph Bruno and Assemblyman, Roy MacDonald, Senator James Wright, Senator Raymond Meier, Congressman John McHugh, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton..
