RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
THE CONCEPT OF THE
ADIRONDACK WIND
ENERGY PARK
Whereas, Barton Mines has proposed a wind power project of
erecting ten (10) wind turbines on the north side of Gore Mountain, with each
turbine to produce enough electricity to power more than eight hundred (800)
households, without smog, acid rain and mercury pollution associated with
coal and oil-fired power plants, and;
Whereas, the turbines would provide ample energy and
would not be out-of-context with the exciting look of the area with Gore Mountain's existing gondola and ski lifts, giant electric
transmission lines and State's owned radio tower, now therefore, be it
Resolved, that the Adirondack Association of Towns and
Villages hereby joins the Town of Johnsburg and
Warren County Board of Supervisors in support of Barton Mines proposal to
erect the wind turbines on the north side of Gore Mountain.
BACKGROUND OF
RESOLUTION
Barton Mines owns large
acreages on the west and north slopes of the existing Gore Mountain Ski
Area. They currently are operating a Garnet mine on adjacent land and
have done extensive monitoring of winds to determine the potential for this
project. A 3-D model is on display at Tannery Pond Community Center in
North Creek that shows a portion of one turbine will be visible south bound
Route 28 at the bottom of North River Hill and portion of two will be visible
traveling north bound Route 28 outside North Creek. The current power
transmission lines are used to power the Ski Center and continue to Indian Lake, run adjacent to the proposed site and will be
used to deliver the power into the grid with minimal changes.
